Description:Health Hazard Evaluation conducted by NIOSH at the National Standard Company, Carbondale, Pennsylvania, indicates that certain employees engaged in the production of perforated metal products (SIC-3449) have dermatitis problems resulting from exposure to machine oils, coolants, cutting oils and other chemical agents. The evaluation is based on medical interview and cutaneous examination of exposed employees, personal observations of the NIOSH investigators, review of medical records and available literature concerning the toxicity of the substances. Recommendations made pertain to worker education, hygienic measures, medical management, management of coolant solutions, prior testing of relative irritancy of materials used in the workplace, and labeling of blending oils such as Circo-X- Lite (R) and Circosol (R) 410 according to the Federal Hazardous Substance Labeling Act.
