Description:The department of anesthesia of a medical school (SIC-8221) was evaluated for hazardous agents because of the history of middle and inner ear disturbances in workers. Based on measurements of workplace concentrations of airborne chemicals, inspection of the work area and materials used, medical evaluation using questionnaires and physical examinations, and review of the current knowledge of ototoxic agents, exposures of employees to chemical agents are not believed to be toxic. Recommendations are made concerning the re-evaluation of existing ventilation. [Description provided by NIOSH]
