Description:A Health Hazard Evaluation investigation was conducted by NIOSH on July 29, 1977, at the pattern and carpenter shop of Stanley Structures, Denver, Colorado, a facility that made wood molds and patterns (SIC-2499) that are used for the production of prestressed concrete patterns. The survey was prompted by a request from the management to evaluate potential hazards associated with exposures to styrene (100425), acetone (67641), methyl-ethyl-ketone (78933), and isopropanol (67630) during the manufacture of wood molds and patterns. Environmental sampling and employee interviews revealed that a health hazard did not exist at the time of evaluation. A fire hazard existed throughout the area where the hazard evaluation was conducted. Recommendations are made for the installation of adequate fire prevention devices and for the initiation of a respiratory program. [Description provided by NIOSH]
