Description:A Health Hazard Evaluation investigation was conducted by NIOSH on September 25, 1975, at the Classic Chemical Company, Camden, New Jersey, contractor formulating various chemicals (SIC-2879) for other companies. The survey was prompted by a request from an authorized representative of 78 affected employees regarding a herbicide which was reportedly causing numbness in the facial area. The toxicity of other herbicides which are formulated from time to time also was questioned. Environmental sampling and medical evaluation of 22 workers revealed that, except for dermatological problems, no adverse health effects could be definitely attributed to the in-plant air concentrations of Weed-B-Gon components. The dermatological problems could not be specifically linked to the components of the herbicide but may be caused by some of the other materials that are packaged. Recommendations are made for improved work practices, use of gloves and coveralls and medical monitoring. [Description provided by NIOSH]
