Description:A Health Hazard Evaluation investigation was conducted by NIOSH on August 21 and September 18-20, 1975, at the Radiant Lady Beauty Salon, Inc., Denver, Colorado, a typical beauty salon (SIC-7231). The survey was prompted by a request from the management regarding the hazards associated with air contaminants present in hair sprays and their effects on the 8 affected cosmetologists. Environmental and medical investigations revealed that a toxic situation did not exist at this facility. The medical investigation failed to reveal any cases suggestive of thesaurosis. Environmental sampling revealed trace amounts of ethanol (64175), Freon 11 (75694), and polyvinyl-pyrrolidone (9003398)
isobutane (75285) concentrations ranged from 373 to 1,935 milligrams per cubic meter. [Description provided by NIOSH]
