Description:A Health Hazard Evaluation investigation was conducted by NIOSH on September 29-30 and October 1, 1975, at the Winchester Hospital (SIC-8062), in Winchester, Massachusetts, to determine the concentrations of waste anesthetic gases and vapors to which operating room personnel were being exposed. The survey was prompted by a request from the management regarding the exposure of the approximately 80 affected employees. On the basis of environmental sampling, it was determined that concentrations of nitrous-oxide (10024972) measured in the operating rooms greatly exceeded 30ppm and that the concentrations of halothane (151677) were usually in excess of the vapors but not the nitrous-oxide. Recommendations are made for effective control of both anesthetics. [Description provided by NIOSH]
