Description:A Health Hazard Evaluation investigation was conducted by NIOSH on January 8 and March 3, 1976, at the facility providing technical and developmental services for the Cement and Lime Division (SIC-3255) of the Martin Marietta Company, in Baltimore, Maryland. The survey was prompted by a request from an authorized representative of the 8 affected employees to evaluate the potential hazard of mercury (7439976) at the refractories' laboratory during mercury penetration porosity tests. Analysis of air samples and observation of work practices revealed that laboratory employees were not exposed to toxic concentrations of mercury vapor. Recommendations are made for improved environmental control and sanitation practices. [Description provided by NIOSH]
