Description:A Health Hazard Evaluation investigation was conducted by NIOSH on July 12, 1977, in the Plate Making Department (SIC-3555) at McCourt Label Company, Bradford, Pennsylvania, a printing company which produces labels for various products. The survey was prompted by a request from an authorized representative of the 2 affected employees alleging employee exposure to various toxic chemicals. Environmental sampling, observation of employees' work practices and examination of existing engineering controls revealed that exposure to chlorine (7782505) exceeded the most recent evaluation criteria, while exposure to perchloroethylene (127184), butyl-alcohol (71363), hydrochloric-acid (7647010), and ethyl-acetate (141786) did not exceed the recommended environmental criteria within the worksite. Recommendations are made for improving the prevailing medical and working conditions. [Description provided by NIOSH]
