• Description:
  Workers involved in the manufacture of agricultural chemicals at Occidental Chemical Co. (SIC-2879) were evaluated for possible exposure to hazardous amounts of toxins. Two groups of workers were compared for age, time worked in agricultural chemical manufacture, serum testosterone, follicle stimulating hormone and luteinizing hormone. Also semen analyses were conducted. Employees in the evaluated area at the time of the study were judged to be exposed to toxic concentrations of dibromochloropropane (96128) (DBCP). Workers who had an occupational history that included exposure to DBCP were more likely to have abnormalities of sperm counts than controls. Testicular biopsies done in ten individuals as well as cumulative DBCP exposure history indicate a dose response type of situation. Those workers who were exposed the longest were more likely to have reduced or zero sperm counts. [Description provided by NIOSH]
