  Environmental and personal air samples were analyzed for butadiene (106990), styrene (100425), methyl-ethyl-ketone (78933) (MEK), methyl-n-butyl-ketone (591786) (MBK), acrylonitrile (107131), and benzene (71432), at the visor mold injection operation at Bell Helmets Inc. (SIC-3469), Norwalk, California. A request for evaluation came from an authorized employee representative, on behalf of 250 workers. The survey was conducted on January 15 and 16, February 13 and 14, and July 2, 1979. Concentrations of all chemicals in the air samples were well below the current OSHA time weighted average exposure standards for butadiene (22 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3)), styrene (420mg/m3), acrylonitrile (70mg/m3), MEK (590mg/m3), MBK (410mg/m3), and benzene (30mg/m3). The authors conclude that no hazard existed at the time of this evaluation. They recommend an improved ventilation system and the use of protective clothing. [Description provided by NIOSH]
