• Description:
  Environmental and medical surveys were conducted on May 24, 1978, to evaluate the toxic exposures to inorganic mercury (7439976) vapor at the Tri-District Health Clinic in Algoma, West Virginia (SIC-8081). The evaluation was requested from the personnel department for an unspecified number of workers. A direct reading instrument did not detect contaminants in tested areas. Long term air sampling revealed mercury concentrations as great as 0.022 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3) which as below the OSHA standard of 0.10mg/m3. Urine sample analysis showed mercury concentrations were below the limit of detection. The authors conclude that a health hazard did not exist at the time of the survey. They recommend that floors be stripped of old wax, cleaned and rewaxed periodically to prevent mercury from becoming trapped in floor cracks
