• Description:
  Environmental and medical surveys were conducted on July 12 and September 11, 1978, to determine employee exposure to benzene (71432) in the print shop at Cambridge University Press (SIC-2731) in New Rochelle, New York. The evaluation was requested by a company representative on behalf of three affected employees. Environmental benzene concentrations ranged from none detected to 1.54 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/cu m), well below the OSHA standard of 32mg/cu m. The authors conclude that the workers were not exposed to excessive concentrations of benzene in the print shop. The authors recommend that one worker with pancytopenia not be allowed to work in areas where benzene is used until after a medical follow up and a determination of his hematological status.
