Description:Worker exposures to a wide variety of chemicals were surveyed on November 28, 1980, and February 18, 1981 at AOPR, Inc. (SIC-9199) in Cincinnati, Ohio. The evaluation was requested by the two company owners to investigate the cause of symptoms such as headaches, dizziness, nausea, blurred vision, confusion, and respiratory irritation. Air and bulk samples were collected for analysis. Concentrations of formaldehyde (50000), ozone (10028156), oxides of nitrogen, sulfur-dioxide (7446095), total hydrocarbons, ammonia (7664417), triethylamine (121448), aniline (62533), phenol (108952), carbon-monoxide (630080), and carbon-dioxide (124389) were undetectable. No volatile amines were detected in heated bulk samples of carpet, padding wallpaper, pastes, adhesives, or duct insulation. Very low concentrations of carbon 4 to carbon 7 alkanes were found along with xylene (1330207), carbon-tetrachloride (56235), benzene (71432), and C10H16 terpene. The author concludes that the reported symptoms of the two workers are not due to any detectable air contaminants generated from materials used in the office at the time of the survey.
