Description:Environmental air samples were analyzed for platinum (7440064) and gold (7440575), and optical radiation measurements were taken at Rosemount, Incorporated (SIC-1542), in Eden Prairie, Minnesota, on January 23, and June 2, 1980. A former employee of the company requested the evaluation in response to three cases of retinal detachment among the welders. No detectable platinum and gold concentrations were measured. All environmental and optical radiation exposures were less than current recommended exposure guidelines. The authors conclude that no definite causal relationship between the cases of detached retina and exposures to gold, platinum, and ocular radiation could be established.
