• Description:
  Workers exposures to radiation from video display terminals (VDT) were surveyed on January 15, 1981 at Narragansett Electric Company (SIC-2711) in Providence, Rhode Island. The evaluation was requested by the Brotherhood of Utility Workers of New England, Local 310, on behalf of the operators of 53 VDT units. Electric and magnetic field strengths were measured near selected VDT units, and X-rays also were measured. X-ray readings usually were between 40 and 80 counts per minute (cpm), below the OSHA standard of 2.5 milliroentgens per hour. Electric and magnetic field strengths were below the analytical limit of detection. The authors conclude that no radiation hazard exists to workers at this company, including pregnant workers.
