Description:Worker exposures to vehicle emissions were surveyed on April 9, 1981, at Pacific Telephone Company (SIC-9999) in San Francisco, California. The evaluation was requested by a representative of the Communications Workers of America, District Number 9, on behalf of approximately 125 office workers. Air samples were analyzed for carbon-monoxide (630080) (CO), carbon-dioxide (124389) (CO2), nitrogen-dioxide (10102440) (NO2), sulfur-dioxide (7446095) (SO2), and formaldehyde (50000). Temperature and humidity also were measured. Concentrations of CO, CO2, NO2, and SO2 were below the respective California OSHA standards of 50, 5000, 5, and 0.5 parts per million. No formaldehyde was detected. Temperature and humidity measurements were within established comfort ranges. The authors conclude that these workers are not exposed to hazardous concentrations of vehicle emissions.
