Description:Environmental and personal air samples were analyzed for toluene (108883), and acetone (67641) at Girch Work Activities (SIC-7641) in La Junta, Colorado, September 18, 1981. The County Health Officer requested the evaluation on behalf of an unspecified number of workers. Acetone concentrations ranged from 10 to 32 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/Cum), compared with the OSHA standard of 2400 mg/Cum. Toluene concentrations were in the range of 33 to 97 mg/Cum, below the OSHA standard 750 mg/Cum. The author concludes that while the sample analysis failed to demonstrate overexposures, a potential hazard did exist at this facility due to inadequate ventilation and the close contact of the workers with the chemicals. He recommends the installation of local exhaust ventilation systems.
