Description:A reproductive health study was conducted among workers at Lear Siegler, Incorporated, Accurate Products Division (SIC-3069), in San Diego, California, on June 11 and 18, 1981. A representative of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, District 50, requested the study on behalf of approximately 142 affected workers. Forty six of the 56 male employees were evaluated and none complained of sexual dysfunction. Eighty one of the 86 female employees were evaluated. Of seven pregnancies, only two resulted in spontaneous abortions. The 81 women had 192 pregnancies before starting work at this facility with 16 percent of the pregnancies resulting in spontaneous abortions. Menstrual problems were not considered excessive. The authors conclude that no adverse reproductive effects among the examined workers could be attributed to the work environment. They recommend an evaluation of the effectiveness of the ventilation system in the small parts molding area, and the improvement of work practices regarding the lifting of heavy materials.
