Description:Air quality in the basement of the Ridge Central Medical Building (SIC-8011), Evanston, Illinois was investigated. After worker complaints of headaches, burning eyes, and chest pains, a building representative requested a survey which was conducted in July and August of 1981. About seven workers were employed on site. Air quality sampling revealed no detectable concentrations of carbon- monoxide, formaldehyde, ozone, or carbon-dioxide. There were no significant concentrations of contaminants detected by gas chromatography or mass spectrometry. The recirculated air was within the range of standards set by the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers. The author reports he was unable to find any specific cause for the reported adverse health effects.
