  Environmental samples were analyzed for sulfur-dioxide (7446095), nitrogen-dioxide (10102440), total particulates, carbon-monoxide (630080), and formaldehyde (50000) at Trailways Bus Systems (SIC- 4171), Denver, Colorado in July 1982. A survey was requested by a representative of the employees on behalf of the baggage handlers and porters because of concerns regarding exposure to diesel emissions. Air samples were taken from the terminal area and inside the building. Formaldehyde and nitrogen-dioxide were not detected. Sulfur-dioxide concentrations ranged from 0.03 to 0.9 milligrams per cubic meter (mg/m3), below NIOSH and OSHA standards of 1.3 and 13mg/m3, respectively. Total particulates were 1 percent or less of the OSHA standard of 15mg/m3. Carbon-monoxide concentrations ranged from 6 to 40 parts per millhon (ppm) in the terminal, and from 7 to 350ppm at the building air inlet. NIOSH and OSHA standards are 35 and 50ppm, respectively. The author concludes that no health hazard exists for employees in the terminal area. It is recommended that buildup of emissions be avoided in the terminal.
