  In this letter the Environmental Protection Agency was informed of results of air sampling for possible asbestos (1332214) exposure, conducted at the Taft Engineering Center, located in Cincinnati, Ohio. Three personal samples and one area sample were taken over a period of slightly more than 1 hour. Detected concentrations of fibers longer than 5 microns ranged from less than 0.1 to 0.2 fibers per cubic centimeter of air (f/cc). The author concludes that this level of exposure is well within the Department of Labor standard for asbestos of 5.0f/cc and the NIOSH criteria of 2.0f/cc. The author indicates that the respirator worn by one worker was not the proper kind for use in asbestos work and recommends that a different respirator be obtained. All respirators and other protective equipment must be properly maintained to be effective.
