  On November 13, 1998, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) received a request for a health hazard evaluation (HHE) from employees of Helena (NIOSH) received a request for a health hazard evaluation (HHE) from employees of Helena Chemical Company (HCC) in West Helena, Arkansas. This request concerned possible health effects related to exposure concerned possible health effects related to exposure to pesticides at the plant, including toxaphene, arsenic, DDT, DDE, Azodrine, Lorsban, and paraquat. Reported health concerns included 'low blood counts,' respiratory problems, visual problems, allergies, and nerve damage. In response to this request, NIOSH investigators conducted a site visit on February 23-24, 1999. This included area monitoring for airborne organotins, as well as reviews of the written respiratory protection and hazard communication programs and training records. Confidential medical interviews were also conducted.
