Este document describe los principales resultados obtenidos en la Encuesta Nacional de Adultos Jóvenes relacionados con las características y circunstancias de la primera relación sexual, el comportamiento subsecuente y la práctica sexual actual de los hombres y mujeres costarricenses menores de 25 años. Se analiza también en detalle la prevalencia y el contexto de las relaciones sexuales premaritales teniendo como referencia los niveles y diferenciales reportados en otros estudios realizados en América Latina.

This paper describes the main results of the National Survey of Young Adults related to the characteristics and circumstances of the first sexual relations, subsequent behavior and current sexual practices of Costa Rican men and women under 25 years. It also analyzes in detail the prevalence and context of having premarital sexual relations and reference levels and differentials as reported in other studies in Latin America.
