Description:We conducted a survey among women attending an urban public sexually transmitted disease clinic to determine the type and frequency of intravaginal cleansing practices. Both intravaginal washing and douching were frequent, performed mostly for routine hygiene, and associated with self-report of sexually transmitted infection and bacterial vaginosis (douching and intravaginal washing).
