Description:Statistics are presented on the utilization of short-stay hospitals based on data collected by means of the National Hospital Discharge Survey from a national sample of hospital records of discharged patients. Average length of stay is presented by patient characteristics of age, sex, marital status, color, and diagnostic and surgical status in conjunction with hospital characteristics of size, ownership or control, and geographic region in which located.
