  Data collected in the 1977 National Nursing Home Survey (NNHS) are presented in 43 tables according to standard sets of descriptive variablk The tables are grouped into six categories: facility, staff, financial, resident, discharge, and charge characteristics. Data are presented that measure utilization, staffing patterns, cost of providing care, health and functional status of residents and dkcharges, and payment for care. Information on completed episodes of care are available for the first time from this survey system based on data collected on persons discharged during 1976. The 1977 NNHS covered all types of nursing homes in the conterminous United States.
