  The Office of Science (OS) upholds the quality, impact and integrity of CDC’s science and advances strategic science to achieve equitable public health. OS provides scientific vision and leadership to ensure actionable, equitable, and impactful science that addresses public health priorities; the quality, integrity, and innovation of CDC science and guidance; timely and open dissemination and translation of scientific information; and that those scientific priorities are rapidly addressed, and findings are rapidly disseminated during public health emergencies. The director and staff within OS provide scientific leadership, service, expertise, and tools to build scientific capacity and capability to support CDC’s efforts to promote health; prevent disease, injury and disability; and prepare and respond to emerging health threats. To carry out its mission, OS (1) provides leadership and support to promote strategic science for action and support programs to define a scientific vision grounded in identified priorities needed to inform guidance, intervention, and policy evidence (2) leads and executes the agency scientific prioritization and provides leadership on strategic science, activities, and planning; (3) provides scientific leadership for public health emergency readiness and responses; (4) facilitates the identification and development of public health guidance; (5) facilitates and coordinates policies, systems, and processes for ensuring scientific regulatory compliance, quality, integrity, innovation, and collaboration; (6) provides leadership and support to strengthen public health science capacity and capability through training, tools, resources, and platforms to promote and implement better scientific practices; (7) provides strategic vision and coordination of extramural and public health science research activities; and (8) promotes access to quality, timely and useful cross-cutting scientific guidance, data, products, and services to strengthen the science and practice of public health and to improve public health decision-making.
