    The mission of the Office of Readiness and Response (ORR) is to advance the nation’s -- preparedness, readiness, and response strategies and activities for public health -- emergencies and threats and to lead the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention -- (CDC) emergency preparedness, readiness and response strategies and activities for -- public health emergencies and threats. To carry out its mission, ORR: (1) fosters -- collaborations, partnerships, integration, and resource leveraging to increase the CDC -- health impact and achieve population health goals; (2) establishes CDC’s strategic -- direction to advance national public health preparedness, readiness, and response efforts; -- (3) leads and establishes CDC-wide preparedness, readiness, and emergency response -- strategies and programs; (4) maintains CDC’s platforms for prevention, preparedness, -- readiness and response, including the agency’s Emergency Management Program and -- Emergency Operations Center (EOC), the Public Health Emergency Preparedness -- cooperative agreement program and the Select Agent and Toxins regulatory program; -- (5) communicates the mission, functions and activities of public health preparedness, -- readiness, and emergency response to internal and external stakeholders; (6) provides -- program support, technical assistance, guidance and fiscal oversight to state, local, tribal -- and territorial public health department grantees; (7) provides CDC's core incident -- management structure to coordinate and execute preparedness, readiness, and response -- activities; (8) coordinates and oversees agency-wide efforts to prepare staff for and -- facilitate their rapid assignment to emergency response positions, including in the EOC -- and through field deployments, as needed; (9) regulates the possession, use and transfer -- of select agents and toxins and the importation of etiological agents, hosts, and vectors of -- human disease to protect public health in the United States; (10) provides the centralized -- management and coordination of national scenario capabilities planning and exercising of -- these plans for CDC; (11) advances U.S. public health response, forecasting, outbreak -- analytics, and surveillance capacities related to disease outbreaks, epidemics, and -- pandemics; and (12) leads in developing and executing a national Polio Virus (PV) -- containment program, and minimizes the risk of PV release through effective -- implementation and oversight of the global poliovirus containment plan in the U.S. -- (Approved 1/24/2023; Effective 2/8/2023)--
