Description:"Information was collected concerning the Monsanto Company, Nitro, West Virginia, for the purpose of evaluating the procedures and the data available to determine if this company would be suitable for inclusion in a study of the causes of death among workers exposed to products contaminated with 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (1746016) (TCDD) or hexachlorodibenzo-p-dioxins (HxCDD). Sodium- 2,4,5-trichlorophenate (Na-2,4,5-TCP) and 2,4,5- trichlorophenoxyacetic-acid (2,4,5-T-acid) were produced at the facility, and both compounds have been shown to be contaminated with TCDD. Based on the information gathered from Monsanto concerning Na- 2,4,5-TCP and 2,4,5-T-acid production processes, the workers involved were suitable for inclusion in the NIOSH Dioxin Registry study. Work histories for these workers could be constructed. Descriptions of the tasks performed in the various processes through the years were available. Analytical data was available for the years 1958 through 1969 and could be combined with the work histories, the knowledge of the tasks performed, and the concentration of TCDD in the 2,4,5-T-acid." - NIOSHTIC-2
