Description:Asthma affects more than 25.9 million people in the United States. More than one third of those affected are children under the age of 18 years. Nationally, it is among the leading causes of hospitalizations for children. In 2006, the average charge for an asthma-related hospital stay for a child was more than $9,000. For 2007, the incremental cost of asthma to society was $56 billion.
