Description:The first survey which HIPS conducted, was the "1968 Social Survey on Family Structure and Population Problems in Turkey", when information on fertility, family structure and population problems such as migration, urbanisation, labour force and income were collected. In 1973a "Survey on Population Structure and Problems in Turkey" was carried out. This survey was parallel to the 1968 Survey in its purpose and questions. "1978 Turkish Fertility Survey" was carried out in collaboration with the World Fertility Survey. Data were obtained on nuptiality, fertility, infant and child mortality and contraceptive usage. The'Turkish Fertility, Contraceptive Prevalence and Family Health Status Survey" was carried out in 1983. In addition, data on fertility and contraceptive usage, information on health status of families, mother and child care, availability and accessibility of family planning services regarding delivery were also collected. This 1988 Survey, which is conducted with financial and technical supports of USAID and Center For Disease Control (CDC) Atlanta; is prepared with the help and support of the State Planning Organization and the Ministry of Health and Social Assistance as were the preceding four surveys.
The 1988 Turkey FP/MCH Survey covers: fertility, contraceptive use, child mortality, maternal and child health services, and abortion history. n=5,257 women 15-49, and 2,265 men of married women.
