First Quarter 1970 For the first quarter of 1970, 1,621 isolations of shigella from humans were reported. This number represents a decrease of 1,294 (44.4 percent) from the 2,915 isolations in the fourth quarter of 1969 and a decrease of 183 (10.1 percent) from the 1,804 isolations in the first quarter of 1969 (Table I.)*
