    • Description:
The purpose of this two-day workshop was to identify zoonotic diseases of greatest national concern for Tanzania using a One Health approach, with input from representatives of human health, livestock, agriculture, wildlife, environment, research, and higher education sectors. In preparation for the workshop, representatives identified a list of zoonotic diseases relevant for Tanzania. During the workshop, representatives defined the criteria for prioritization and determined questions and weights relevant to each criterion. Tanzania’s priority zoonotic diseases were identified using the One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization tool, a semi-quantitative selection tool developed and coordinated by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The prioritized zoonotic diseases for Tanzania identified using the One Health Zoonotic Disease Prioritization Process were the following:

      • Rabies

      • Rift Valley Fever and other viral hemorrhagic fevers (Marburg, Ebola)

      • Zoonotic influenza

      • Anthrax

      • Human African Trypanosomiasis (Sleeping Sickness)

      • Brucellosis
