    • Description:
Photograph of a man with his hands over his face, a woman with her hands covering her ears and another man with his hands covering his mouth

"This is the way many people deal with HIV."

"A lot of people figure HIV isn't something they have to worry about. It's something other people get, not them. But anyone can get HIV infection if they are sharing drug needles and syringes or having sex with an infected person."

"HIV infection can happen to you if you take chances or pretend it doesn't exist."

"There are some general rules. Never share drug needles and syringes. And unless you're sure your partner isn't infected, don't take a chance. Or at lease use a latex condom, correctly, every time you have sex."

"Understand HIV and AIDS. Call your State or local AIDS Hotline, or the National AIDS Hotline at 1-800-342-AIDS. Call 1-800-243-7889 (TTY) for deaf access."

HIV is the virus that causes AIDS.
