Description:The rate of increase in dogs infected with Guinea worms in Chad appears to finally be
declining (Figure 1) in response to efforts to prevent new infections of dogs (bury fish
entrails), contain infected dogs (tethering), and encourage reporting of dog infections
(cash reward) that began in October 2013, February 2014, and February 2015,
respectively. This downward trend has remained steady in 2016 despite inclusion of additional new
villages with active surveillance (VAS) (encompassing 763 VAS during Jan-Jul 2015 vs 1,394 VAS
currently).
