Description:Assisted living and similar residential care communities provide services to individuals who cannot live independently but generally do not require the skilled level of care provided by nursing homes. With the aging of the population, the number of individuals needing this type of care is expected to increase in the future. Residential care communities will likely continue to be an important part of the long-term care system as their numbers increase to meet the growing demand. Using data from the first-ever national study of residential care communities with four or more beds, the National Survey of Residential Care Facilities (NSRCF), this chartbook presents national findings on residential care communities and residents in the United States in 2010.
