Description:A preliminary report indicates that ethylene-dibromide (EDB) (106934), a synthetic organic chemical with several industrial uses, is carcinogenic in laboratory rodents. Direct contact with EDB causes irritation and injury to the skin and eyes. Exposure to the vapor causes respiratory tract inflammation along with anorexia and headache. Weakness, rapid pulse, cardiac failure, liver necrosis, kidney tubular damage, and tinnitus and protracted vomiting are associated with oral ingestion and other forms of EDB intoxication.
