Description:The Core Components of a model state Injury & Violence Prevention (IVP) Program are six essential, foundational elements that describe IVP program capacity as defined by the Building Safe States: Core Components of State Injury & Violence Prevention Programs, 2013 Edition. The six, action-oriented Core Components are interconnected and rely on one another to provide an IVP program with forward momentum.
Standards for each Core Component, along with indicators to address progress towards each standard, exist for all six Core Components. However, three of the six Core Components are considered cross-cutting: Communication, Collaboration, and Training & Technical Assistance. Standards and Indicators for those three Core Components have been woven into the other three sections - Infrastructure, Injury and Violence Data, and Program and Policy Strategies.
State IVP Programs can use these standards and indicators to assess opportunities to strengthen their programs and ultimately reduce the burden of injury in their state. They are designed to be measurable, relevant, understandable, and applicable across different sizes and capacities of IVP programs.
The development of the standards and indicators was supported by CE13-1307 (Safe States Alliance) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Its contents are solely the responsibility of the authors and do not necessarily represent the official views of the CDC. Safe States Alliance is grateful for this support.
