Description:Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) has emerged as a cause of skin infections and, less commonly, invasive infections among otherwise healthy adults and children in the community. More data are needed in order to fully understand the epidemiology, microbiology, and pathophysiology of these infections and to identify optimal prevention and treatment strategies. This report summarizes strategies for the clinical management of MRSA in the community based on discussions held at an MRSA experts’ meeting convened by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in July 2004, in conjunction with additional data available as of January 2006.
