  Information is presented for establishing a comprehensive occupational safety and health (OSH) program to aid in identifying, evaluating, and controlling unsafe or unhealthful acts, practices, or conditions at colleges and universities. Practical guidelines for the implementation of an OSH program on campuses with little or no formal programs are offered, and supplementary activities are suggested for institutions with preexisting programs. The legislation of OSHA regulations and their impact on colleges and universities are reviewed. Administrative procedures to be considered in developing an OSH program, including organization and staffing, are examined. The OSH program activities required to identify potential hazards, inform employees of suitable OSH procedures, record incidents, and examine program results are described.
