Since 1973, CDC's Division of Reproductive Health has produced Reproductive Health Surveys (RHS), with funding from USAID. These national level, household-based representative surveys interview large samples of women (and sometimes men) of reproductive age. The surveys are tailored to the needs and preferences of the countries where they take place, and produce information useful to health policy makers and program planners as well as to researchers. The RHS covers a wide variety of reproductive health topics, including family planning, fertility, maternal health, infant and child health, sexually transmitted infections (including HIV), and gender-based violence, among others. Geographically, the surveys have been focused in Latin America and Eastern Europe, with some surveys in Africa. The older survey reports are now out of print and collected here (more recent survey reports are available online).
